Pizza & Politics 2019

Front Room Wine BarJoin us on Saturday, August 24 as we gather in Smithville for our third annual “Pizza & Politics”.  We’ll be at the Front Room Wine Bar from 2PM to 5PM.  The cost is just $25 for members and $35 for non-members.

Last year, this event was a sell-out. Register today to reserve your spot!

Enjoy a glass of wine, beer or a non-alcoholic beverage and some pizza. And, meet-up with fellow Republicans. Meet new friends and catch up with folks you haven’t seen in a while.

No need to rush out the door at 5:00PM. Stay longer if you like.  This wonderful pub has a fabulous menu and the food is great.  Not a member of LPRW? Join us today and get discounts on all our events.

Painted Churches Tour 2019

Skirting two weather events, LPRW held its Third Annual Painted Churches Tour on Saturday, April 6. Tour guide, Cathy Chaloupka, discussed the history of the various churches we visited. And, as usual, the lunch at the Oak Ridge Smokehouse was excellent.

“I’m writing to thank you for the painted churches tour. It was a great experience. I had no idea those churches existed and my family’s been in Texas for generations. 56659837_564979274009741_6358943272093614080_n

If you have it next year, I’d like to go again ’cause I’m sure I missed a lot of the history the docent spoke of since there was so much to take in. I enjoyed it and I appreciate it,” commented one attendee.

Cookies for Cops

LPRW thanked our wonderful public safety folks at the Elgin, Smithville, Bastrop Police Departments and Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office along with the Bastrop Fire Department with love and cookies for Valentine’s Day. THANKS for all y’all do every day!

Kathleen Caso did a great job of pulling this together. The LPRW bakers, always enthusiastic, provided lots of cookies and sweets for our public safety folks.

LPRW President Carol Spencer joined Kathleen in delivering the cookies.

Cruz Addresses Sold Out Pizza & Politics

Senator Ted Cruz Visits LPRW in Bastrop County
Third Court of Appeals candidates honored with contributions

On Saturday, August 4, we gathered in Smithville for our second annual “Pizza & Politics”.  We were thrilled when word came earlier this week that Senator Ted Cruz would stop by.  Senator Cruz spoke to the crowd, took questions, and mingled with attendees.  LPRW is so very appreciative that he chose our event for a visit to Bastrop County.  Kudos to his staff who make everything run smoothly.

Four current Third Court justices: David Puryear, Melissa Goodwin, Scott Field, and Cindy Olson-Bourland joined us, as well as JD Rimann who was representing candidate Mike Toth who is away at drill.  Because of the dedication of our members, we were honored to make campaign contributions to the four candidates for the Third Court.  This is the first time LPRW has been able to do so in our young, 18 month existence.

Special thanks go to Victoria Allen and her wonderful staff who efficiently took care of a sold-out crowd, all with smiles and kind words.

Photos are in our Flickr stream in the right column.

We were joined by Kathy Haigler, Caldwell County Republican Chair, and Deborah Frank, Fayette County Republican chair.  Former Bastrop County Republican Chair Jeanne Raley was on hand to introduce Senator Cruz.  Raley was instrumental in bringing Senator Ted Cruz to Smithville for this event.

Sarah Loucks, Bastrop County District Court Administrator attended, along with Bastrop County Bar President Caroline McClimon, and members of our sister-clubs: Austin Republican Women, Fayette County Republican Women, and NW Austin Republican Women.   Club presidents Robbi Hull, Deborah Frank, and Susan Friedrich came out to support our event.  Thank you.
